Shaheed Allah Buksh Soomro (SABS) University of Art, Design and Heritages Jamshoro organized a one day seminar on Cyber Crime and Its Effects on Youth. The seminar was conducted by Cyber Crime Wing of Federal Investigative Agency (FIA) as part of their awareness campaign in educational institutions.
Addressing the seminar Circle Incharge Cyber Crime Wing FIA Qazi Jahanzaib Alam said that when a crime is to take place online through internet or related technology is called cyber crime and there are specialized crimes committed by targeting any computer device or connected network. He said that in Pakistan 33 million people use internet and more than 20000 cyber enabled crimes were reported in the year 2021, among them most of the cases were related to university students being trapped, blackmailed or harassed.
Qazi Jahanzaib said that cyber crime is classified in two categories such as: computers are used to commit crime and computers become target of crime, threatening email, assuming someone’s identity, defamation, spam, phishing, virus, worms, industrial espionage, software piracy and hacking are methods used in such crimes. Circle Incharge said that to avoid any type of cyber crime activity do not provide personal information online to get anything free, do not click links inside email or messages, never trust any free online content and what you put online will always remain there so think ten times before uploading any information or status.
Qazi Jahanzaib further said that never share personal information because you are being watched by millions of people, think twice before sharing personal pictures and videos because someone can use any unwanted software for pictures to defame you, never accept request from a stranger, avoid having conversation with persons whom you do not know, limit finger print security on your phone, do not let others use your laptop, mobile phone or any android device, do not share intimate material with anyone even if someone is closer to you, format all gadgets before selling in market and always select the trustworthy person in case of repair of mobile phone or any gadget.
Addressing the seminar Vice-chancellor SABS Prof. Dr. Bhai Khan Shar said that crime has changed its shapes with passage of time and nowadays digital crime is common in youth. He said that cyber crime is not limited to a particular area but is happening beyond the borders and is considered as limitless and borderless. Dr. Shar said that the idea behind organizing such type of seminar is to aware students regarding good or bad, right or wrong and beneficial or dangerous as they may know what is going around them.
The seminar was attended by Assistant Director FIA Aamir Ali, Sub Inspector FIA Sami Aslam, students, faculty and staff members.
