A special International Evening was held at the Stuart House Hotel on Monday 2 June. Guests from India, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Thailand, Lithuania and Italy gave brief talks on their experiences of living in England and answered questions from members of the Rotary Club of King’s Lynn.
However, the highlight of the evening was the presentation of a cheque for £1300 to Dr Prabir Mitra and his wife, Sanjukta, who embark on a 25000 km overland trip to India on Sunday 8 June. They will travel through 20 different countries including Russia and China and will follow, where possible, the historic Silk Road. Hence the title of their journey is ‘A Silk Road Odyssey.’ Prabir and Sanjukta aim to raise awareness of diabetes. In Kolkata, for example, they will hold seminars sponsored by local Rotary Clubs and the aim is to raise funds for medical equipment for the Hope Hospital which treats a large number of patients with diabetes.
