ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly (NA) secretariat has released a new list showing the standings of political parties, but it doesn’t include certain disputed reserved seats. This list, issued on September 18, leaves out 15 seats for the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), five for the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), and three for the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F).
This change comes after NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq wrote to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), stating that the Supreme Court’s July 12 ruling is hard to implement. The court had allowed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party to reclaim reserved seats, letting it return to the assemblies.
According to the new list, there are 213 lawmakers in the government, with 110 from PML-N and 69 from PPP. The opposition has 80 members from PTI and JUI-F.
Currently, there are 313 members in the NA, but this number could grow to 336 once the disputed seats are filled. This situation highlights ongoing disagreements over political representation and election rules.
