Karachi – Chairman of the National Business Group Pakistan, President of Pakistan Businessmen and
Intellectuals Forum, and former provincial minister, Mian Zahid Hussain, addressed the
industrialists of Sector 15 in Korangi Industrial Area, thanking them for their contribution.
He stated that the increasing prices of electricity and gas have become a significant threat to
the industrialists, the public, and the economy. If the cost of energy continues to rise,
thousands of businesses will shut down, revenues will further decline, and millions of people
will become unemployed. Khurram Khalil Nanitalwala, the Vice-Chairman of the Progressive
Korangi Industrial Alliance, discussed with the business community on this occasion, stating
that the energy sector has become a major threat to the economy. Continuous and
adequate supply of electricity and gas should be ensured to the industrialists, and the
soaring prices must be controlled; otherwise, we will not remain competitive in exports. He
further mentioned that the issues of sewage in the Korangi Industrial Area are increasing
day by day. Overflowing sewerage is damaging the roads, and there is a severe shortage of
water for industries. On this occasion, Sheikh Manzar Alam, former Chairman of the Korangi
Association, addressing the gathering, said that the government has started increasing the
prices of electricity and gas according to the IMF’s conditions, but on the other hand, no
plan has been made to stop the insufficient collection of bills, theft, line losses, subsidies,
and rampant corruption. The government should protect the industries. The host of the
event, Engineer Syed Safdar Ali, addressing the industrialists, said that we have complete
trust in Mian Zahid Hussain’s leadership. He further said that the issues of the Korangi
Industrial Area should be resolved, relief should be provided from the tanker mafia, street
crimes should be eradicated, and complete protection should be ensured for the
industrialists.”
