The Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of various districts of Sindh have recommended postponing the local body elections.
According to ARY News, Deputy Commissioners have requested to postpone the second phase of local body elections in Sindh for 60 days.
The second phase of local elections in Sindh is scheduled from August 28.
In the letter from the Deputy Commissioners, it has been written that due to rain and floods, there are many places where access is not possible while the buildings of many polling stations have been affected and the roads have been destroyed.
DC Malir
DC Malir has written a letter to the Election Commission regarding the second phase of municipal elections and has informed that 2 USCs of Malir district have been declared disaster prone.
According to the letter, Gadap is a polling station located on the border of Balochistan, and the given schools are still under water.
DC Jamshoro
DC Jamshoro has written a letter to postpone the second phase of local body elections. DC has written a letter to the Sindh Election Commission and appealed to postpone the municipal elections.
The DC says that 70 percent of the polling stations in Jamshoro district are surrounded by water. It is also difficult to deliver the election materials to the polling stations. Elections in the district should be postponed for 45 days.
Deputy Commissioner Sajawal
Deputy Commissioner Sajawal has also sent a letter to the Election Commission to postpone the elections. Deputy Commissioner Shahryar Gul Memon says that due to the recent rains, the coastal district of Sajawal has been greatly affected, therefore the elections should be postponed.
DC Badin
DC Badin says that Badin has been affected by the rains, buildings and roads have been damaged, 65 percent of the polling stations are submerged in water where access is not possible.
Deputy Commissioner Tandwalhiyar
Deputy Commissioner Tindwalhiyar said that there are many polling stations where the affected families have been accommodated.
Sources say that Election Commission Sindh will send the report to the EC today in light of the recommendations.
It should be noted that the Election Commission of Sindh had asked for a report from all the district officers and was also directed to attach the photographs of the affected polling stations.
