Karachi: Half of Pakistan’s population is made up of women, said Dr. Aftab Imam, District Governor, Rotary International 3271, on the occasion of the Single Mothers and Dependent Women Vocational Training Program organized by Rotary Club of Karachi Nexus and Vocational Training Institute for Women (VTIW).
Guest speaker on the occasion, Rotary International Vice President Valarie K. Wafer, her Husband Mark Wafer, RCK Nexus President Muhammad Ali Haider, RI Director Muhammad Faiz Kidwai, and including guest Nominated District Governors for 2023-24 Muhammad Hanif Khan, Nominated District Governors for 2024-25 Muhammad Rizwan Adhia, PDG Owais Kohari, Alia Kohari, Founder & Executive Secretary RCK Nexus Aslam Khaliq, Assistant Governor RI Districts 3271 Zone 4 Kausar Aslam, Directors of RCK Nexus Shoaib Arif & Syed Turab Shah, RCK Avenue Member Rashid Aziz, Abid Hussain, Vocational Trainer Shoaib Arif, Women Entrepreneur Arshila Hussain, Chairperson Women Empowerment Syeda Sara Zafar Ali, Joint Secretary Junaid Hamid, and others were also present.
Dr. Aftab Imam said that due to deliberate tolerance in society, where other problems are arising, the cases of divorce are also increasing. He said that the husband’s inappropriate behavior or domestic incompetence is the main reason for the increase in divorce cases in society.
Dr. Aftab Imam said that single mothers face many problems in education, food, and health of their children as women often do not get help from their parents due to which these women have to leave home for employment, which causes problems for their children.
He said that technical training is very important for single mothers so that they can earn a living through their skills at home. Which they can train and educate their children.
Dr. Aftab Imam said that due to inflation every person has to do some work to get employment but still he is not able to meet the electricity, gas bills, and other expenses.
“Women, whether married or unmarried, should learn education as well as skills so that they can work hard and run their household in any conditions,” he added.
Further, he said that we have been hearing from the past that a skilled person can never starve to death, a skilled person can earn anywhere.
At the present, all possible steps are being taken to empower women, while Rotary International and its various clubs are also featured in it. Rotary International is working on various projects to empower women. This will enable women to become skilled along with education.
Speaking on the occasion, RCK Nexus President M Ali Haider said that providing education, health, and employment to the people is the main mission of Rotary International. For which all Rotarians are working on different projects. “Women are a part of society and we need to take steps to empower them,” he said. Today’s women are offering their services alongside men in various fields, which is welcome.
At the end of the ceremony, Dr. Aftab Imam and M Ali Haider also presented the Shield to the Rotary International Vice President Valarie K. Wafer.
