The Election Commission says that fool-proof security arrangements should be made for the by-elections on October 16, adequate personnel of law enforcement agencies, Rangers, Army and FC should be mobilized.
The Election Commission, while replying to the letter to the Ministry of Interior, has asked that special security measures should be taken in the light of the agency’s source report.
Secretary Election Commission Umar Hameed said in a letter to Secretary Defense and Secretary Interior that the political atmosphere in the country is hot at the moment, floods have made the situation critical.
He said that security arrangements should be increased to conduct peaceful elections.
The Election Commission’s letter said that the Quick Response Force should do its work in the shortest possible time.
The ECP said that fool-proof security arrangements should be made for the local elections in Karachi on October 23.
The Election Commission further said that transparent and fair elections were conducted by the Election Commission while it is the responsibility of the provincial administration to take necessary steps.
The Election Commission said that the police should be allowed to assist the Army, Rangers and FC in sensitive areas.
The letter said that arrangements should be made to maintain the law and order situation.
The ECP added that Army, FC and Rangers will be there as backup if required.
