islamabad: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has underscored the need to reset Pakistan-US ties on the basis of mutual trust and respect.
He was leading Pakistan delegation at talks with the US delegation led by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Islamabad this afternoon.
The two sides held discussions on bilateral and regional and international issues.
Pakistan Foreign Minister said safeguarding of national interests would remain supreme priority of the Government.
Radio Pakistan’s correspondent says Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi would be briefing newsmen on talks this evening.
US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo is having a meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad.
Earlier, the US Secretary of State arrived in Islamabad and was received at airport by official of the Foreign Ministry and US Embassy.
Talking to newsmen prior to leaving for Islamabad in Washington, Mike Pompeo said his country wants improvement in relationship with Pakistan.
He said Pakistan and the United States will have to make joint efforts to deal with common challenges.
The US Secretary of State is also accompanied by Chairman US Joint Chiefs of Staff General Joseph Dunford.
The American delegation will hold talks with Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and his team.
The US officials are also scheduled to hold meetings with senior political and military leadership on bilateral relations and regional security.
