Islamabad: On Monday night, Islamabad police arrested PTI leaders Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Sher Afzal Khan Marwat, and Advocate Shoaib Shaheen outside Parliament. The arrests came after clashes erupted following PTI’s rally in Islamabad on September 8. Police confirmed the arrests, with Marwat being the first taken into custody.
PTI condemned the arrests, accusing the PML-N government of attacking democracy. They argued that the arrests, which followed allegations of drug influence and illegal activity, are a direct attack on their party and democratic values. PTI leaders also criticized the Islamabad police for acting on “illegal orders” and demanded the immediate release of the detained leaders.
Opposition leader Omar Ayub Khan and other PTI members have denounced the arrests as politically motivated and claimed that the regime is using oppressive tactics against their party. The Islamabad High Court Bar Association also condemned the detentions and called for the withdrawal of all charges.
The arrests follow a tense rally where PTI supporters clashed with police, leading to baton charges and tear gas use. PML-N Senator Talal Chaudhry promised legal action against those involved in the disturbances.
