Karachi : Amidst the inflation, unemployment and the people lacking the power of purchase, the private healthcare system in our country provides next to no relief to the ones in dire need.
There have been cases where the top-notch hospitals provide negligent care in a profession which requires
extraordinary care and caution. Although we do have doctors who are considered the best in their fields,
but they are part of the system which focuses more on making money rather than working for the welfare of
the needy. I learnt about a case yesterday where a working-class civilian was ripped off by a private hospital by
charging for a wrongful diagnosis first and then giving treatment for a cancer stage which was deemed as
incurable. The patient, sadly, passed away and was obviously charged absurd amounts for something
which was incurable. To address this critical issue, our country urgently needs investment in more public hospitals that can offer not only affordable and effective healthcare but also assistance to all citizens.
I'm hopeful that your news agency, which has consistently highlighted pressing issues in the past, will
consider bringing this matter to the forefront.
