ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari is calling on Pakistanis to come together and plant more trees to help fight climate change. In a passionate statement on Sunday, he highlighted the critical need for increased forest coverage, noting how climate change is increasingly affecting Pakistan.
During the Monsoon Tree Plantation Campaign, which aligns with National Tree Plantation Day on August 18th, Zardari planted a “Neem” sapling at Bilawal House in Karachi. He spoke about the Neem tree’s many benefits, including its shade, its role in purifying the air, and its natural mosquito-repelling qualities.
Reflecting on past efforts, Zardari remembered a tree planting campaign from Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed’s tenure, when he was Minister for Climate. He emphasized that, given the rising temperatures, such initiatives are more important than ever.
With a heartfelt appeal, President Zardari urged the youth and communities across Pakistan to actively participate in this campaign. He believes that expanding our forest cover is essential for creating a healthier, safer environment and praised the successful mangrove restoration projects in Sindh as a model of positive environmental action.
