Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan have agreed to work together in the wider interests of the country.

A statement issued by the PPP spokesperson said that a consensus has been reached between the two parties and it has been decided to work together in the wider interest of the country.

According to the statement, the two parties decided to work together for the betterment of the country during the meeting of the MQM delegation with PPP co-chairman and former president of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari and chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

The spokesperson said that the leadership of PPP and MQM discussed the political situation in the country and agreed to work together in the wider interest of the country.

He said that PPP and MQM have also agreed on all the points.

According to the PPP spokesperson, the meeting between the two parties took place at Zardari House in Islamabad where former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Provincial Ministers Nasir Hussain Shah, Saeed Ghani, Sharjeel Memon and Rukhsana were represented by the PPP. Bangash and others were also present.

On behalf of MQM, the delegation included Convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Aamir Khan, Federal Minister for Information Technology (IT) Aminul Haq, Wasim Akhtar, Khawaja Izharul Hassan and Javed Hanif.

Consultations on no-confidence motion underway, MQM

A MQM Pakistan spokesperson said that a high level MQM delegation led by Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui called on Bilawal Bhutto and Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari.

He said that the meeting was a continuation of political meetings held for the last several days.

He said that the position of MQM on the issues of urban Sindh including Karachi and Hyderabad was put before the ruling party of Sindh in the light of all the facts.

The MQM spokesperson said that the top leadership of the PPP also agreed to establish permanent and better links for the solution of the problems of the citizens of Sindh and to resolve the administrative and legal issues through legislation.

He said that consultations were underway on the current political situation, including the no-confidence motion, but would take a decision based on the interests of the people and their interests.

It may be recalled that the meeting of the MQM delegation with the PPP leadership took place during the situation created after the opposition filed a no-confidence motion against the government in the National Assembly.

Yesterday, Sindh Governor Imran Ismail along with his aides had visited the MQM headquarters in Bahadurabad on behalf of PTI to win the confidence of MQM.

Talking to media, Sindh Governor Imran Ismail said, “I have come here to convey the message of Prime Minister Imran Khan to MQM Pakistan.”

“We have asked MQM Pakistan for support on the issue of no-confidence motion. If we get the support of our allies in the federal government, then we do not need anything else,” he said.

He said that MQM has always stood by the government and supported the government, and this is why we hope that they will continue to support Imran Khan by adopting this attitude.

When MQM leader Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui was asked about the party’s decision regarding the no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister, he said, “We have to decide in the interest of our party and the nation.”

“The MQM is a democratic party and we have a long tradition of taking the views of our workers before making any major decision,” he said.

“So far we are allies of the government and that is why the government is in place. We believe that whatever the outcome of all the circumstances, democracy will not be harmed,” he said.

When asked about the growing pressure on the PTI government and the possible decision of the PML-Q in favor of the opposition, he replied that the party was not bound to follow the decision of others.

He further said that if PML-Q is free to take its own decision then we are also free to look at it honestly. It is their situation that they will take into account.

It may be recalled that last week, Prime Minister Imran Khan also visited the MQM headquarters in Bahadurabad and held discussions with his two allies at the Center, the MQM and the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA).
