ISLAMABAD: On Wednesday, the polio national team briefed the Prime Minister’s Office about a rise in polio cases across Pakistan. To combat the virus, a comprehensive vaccination campaign is planned for September, October, and December.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that all available resources will be mobilized to eradicate polio. He ordered that the polio vaccine be made readily available, particularly in security-risk areas. Despite significant progress in the fight against polio due to the efforts of front-line workers, government determination, and partner cooperation, Sharif expressed concern that Pakistan remains one of the only two countries where polio still exists.
So far this year, nine polio cases have been reported in the country. To address this, a nationwide vaccination campaign will be launched in the coming months. Additionally, a detailed plan involving two, four, and six-month vaccination schedules has been established. Data on children who missed vaccinations has been digitized to ensure coverage with the help of digital tracking.
