Pakistan’s former ambassador to the United States and the United Kingdom, Dr. Maleeha Lodhi, has said that Pakistan’s relations with the United States may be affected due to Washington’s tension with Beijing.
However, Pakistan wants to stay away from the conflict of great powers, which is a difficult task.
He said that until China’s relations with the US improve, Pakistan will face a problem. He said this while addressing a program of the United State Institute of Peace in Washington.
Former ambassador Jalil Abbas Jilani and Indian diplomats Nirupama Rao and Arn Singh also expressed their views in the program. Dr. Maleeha Lodhi said that after the withdrawal of American forces from Afghanistan, Pakistan is facing a new situation.
He also said that Pakistan’s relations with India are also facing a new situation. However, Pakistan is being affected by the conflict between the big powers and at this time Pakistan’s relations with neighboring countries are also a challenge.
There will be a new test for Pakistan due to the foreign policy imposed on Pakistan due to US-China tensions. But despite all these facts, Pakistan’s relations with China will still remain ideal. Dr. Maleeha Lodhi said that in all this situation, progress on CPEC seems to be an ideal project.
He further said that Pakistan’s dialogue with India has been closed for a long time, especially the termination of the special status of Occupied Kashmir by India. Even from the chat, no new situation is emerging for the start of negotiations.
