A prominent professor and doctor of Pakistan attended the inaugural function of the Annual Symposium Silver Jubilee of the Pakistan Hypertension League.
The ceremony began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by the national anthem of Pakistan was played.
Addressing the event, Convener Symposium Prof. Dr. Syed Fasih Hashmi said that the number of participants in today’s event shows that we are on the way to success in our goal. More than 46 percent of citizens in Pakistan suffer from high blood pressure.
According to the Pakistan Hypertension League, more than nine out of every 20 Pakistanis are suffering from the medical condition of high blood pressure, and the proportion of young people among such citizens is higher than in the past.
According to medical experts, this situation is alarming because there is a severe lack of satisfactory medical facilities in the country even in many urban areas, while the situation is even worse in rural areas. Experts say the reason for their concern is that long-term high blood pressure can lead to medical consequences such as hemorrhage and stroke, in addition to predisposing a person to various heart diseases and kidney diseases.
That’s why, if the public is not told about healthy food and public awareness against blood pressure is not raised, then the situation facing the public health sector in Pakistan may take a critical shape in the coming years.
Prof. Dr. Feroz Memon said in his address that about 52% of the population in Pakistan is suffering from high blood pressure. 42% of the victims do not even know how they became hypertensive patients.
High blood pressure is often called the “silent killer” by medical experts because there are no visible symptoms of high blood pressure, which can help detect it in its early stages. Therefore, the patient becomes aware of the problem when his health begins to suffer.
Professor Dr. Abdus Samad said, “If a person has a history of high blood pressure in his family, the risk increases for the concerned person.” If a person is also suffering from other diseases, such as diabetes, various kidney diseases, high cholesterol, and various thyroid diseases, then the risk of high blood pressure also doubles. Then the medicines taken to treat such diseases can also cause high blood pressure.
In the opening ceremony, Prof. Dr. Syed Fasih Hashmi awarded the shield to Prof. Dr. Nazir Ashraf Laghari, Prof. Ejaz Bhora, and Prof. Dr. Abdus Samad.
