The 26th congress of the world energy council (WEC) was held in Rotterdam from 22-25 April 2024. A High level Roundtable was held at the conference venue on 24 April, which was led by Mr. Rob Jetten, Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister for Climate and Energy Policy of The Netherlands. The event brought together Ministers, Policymakers, Ambassadors and Professionals from various countries and organizations.
Ambassador Suljuk Mustansar Tarar represented Pakistan at the event. The discussions during the High Level Roundtable revolved around Climate change, Energy security, Transition to clean energy, and challenges in implementing shared goals agreed by the countries under the COP framework. During the discussions, Ambassador Tarar shared Pakistan ‘s viewpoint on the climate change, and the need for a collective strategy to deal with this. He also shared Pakistan ‘s commitment to the green energy Transition, and the policy framework adopted by the Government of Pakistan to achieve these targets, such as the National Electric Vehicle Policy, and Alternate & Renewable Energy Policy.
He reiterated Government of Pakistan’s commitment to achieving the goal of having 60% of Pakistan’s power generation capacity from clean sources by 2030. On the sidelines, the Ambassador met with Deputy Prime Minister Rob Jetten, and Dr. Angela Wilkinson, the CEO and the Secretary General of the World Energy Council. Ambassador Tarar also visited the pavilions of various energy companies and discussed opportunities with a view to benefitting from their technical expertise.
