The other day was dedicated to the unlawful occupation of Palestine by Israel while inviting other countries to put it into practice today.
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif in a statement on Saturday, welcomed the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice on Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories urging the world to implement this verdict so that the Palestinians are granted their right.
The UN’s highest court held as it announced its advisory decision on Friday that: Israel continues to engage in expansion of the settlements in the West Bank and east Jerusalem in breach of international law as it gives a non-binding opinion on the illegality of the occupation of lands for a Palestine state.
Israel occupied the West Bank, east Jerusalem, and Gaza Strip in the June 1967 Middle East war. All three areas are sought by the Palestinians for a state of their own. The ICJ ruling could have more impact on the international public opinion than it will have on the Israeli practices themselves.
On X, Sharif said that the ICJ decision on occupation and illegal settlements by Israel was a statement of affirmance of a just struggle of the Palestinian nation.
“I kindly appeal to the international community and the United Nations to enforce the decision, with the realization of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination within the framework of the two-state solution as provided by UN resolutions,” he said.
“Glad that Pakistan played our part in this case, partly at least which underlines our support for the Palestinian’s cause.”
Pakistan doesn’t acknowledge Israel and supports the Palestinian state that should be created by “internationally accepted principles. ”
This and other observations were made after Friday’s ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on the Israeli separated wall convenient and its security fence, construction of which began in the wake of Israel’s devastating ten-month military operation against the Gaza Strip which was precipitated by the Hamas led attacks on the south of Israel.
The court also correctly concluded that Israel acted ‘inconsistently’ with the principles of international law as the occupying nation in the utilisation of natural resources.
In another matter, the ICJ is entertaining a complaint by South Africa regarding what it says is genocide being committed in Gaza by Israel; a charge that Israel strongly refutes.
