More than 30 years after it was recorded, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s powerful voice is back with the release of “Chain of Light.” This album was launched on Friday by Peter Gabriel’s Real World Records. It was recorded in 1990 at Real World Studios and features four tracks, lasting a total of 41 minutes.
Songs like “Ya Allah Ya Rehman” and “Aaj Sik Mitran Di” capture the lively energy of Khan’s famous live concerts. The track “Ya Gaus Ya Meeran” adds intensity, while “Khabram Raseed Imshab” brings a joyful tone, showcasing the range of his incredible vocals.
The album includes contributions from his brother, Farrukh Fateh Ali Khan, tabla player Dildar Hussain, and a chorus with Mujahid Ali, Rehmat Ali, Rahat Ali, Asad Ali, Ghulam Farid, and Khalid Mahmood.
Peter Gabriel praised Nusrat, saying, “What he could do with his voice was extraordinary.” He highlighted that the album shows Khan at his best. The recordings were found in 2021 after being forgotten during an archive move. Although Nusrat passed away in 1997 at the age of 48, his music continues to inspire through his family, including Rahat Fateh Ali Khan.
