Karachi: Dow graduate Dr. Mansoor Mohiuddin, who carried out successful xenotransplant from pig to human’s heart for the first time in the history of medical science, has said that the history in the field of surgery that is created in the start of this year January 7 is not my first effort. I have done many efforts before and faced discouragement from 90% of people but finally consistency gave success, and we were able to find a new pathway to save human life.
He said this while speaking as the chief guest of the event in honor of the emerging researcher in the “Muin Auditorium” organized by the Dow Institute of Health Professionals Education (DIHPE).
Professor Muhammad Saeed Quraishy, Dr. Farhan Vakani, Dr. Shahid Shamim were the speakers while a large number of teachers and students including Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Nusrat Shah, Registrar Dr. Ashar Afaq, Prof. Sumbal Shamim, Prof. Ambrina Qureshi and others were also present on this occasion.
Dr. Mansoor Mohiuddin, (who is also the president of Dow Graduate of North America “Dogana”) said that research and self-pity are interlinked to each other, you cannot bear the burden of frustration you come under pressure, then you cannot do research. They said that as soon as I started the first research program, the program was closed.
In this way, 5 research programs with different institutions were closed due to non-availability of funds, but I did not give up, continued my efforts and finally got success. He said that some time ago in America, our college friends made a research program on malaria, so I suggested that there can be no better place than Pakistan for malaria research, but unfortunately we do not have any electronic database available.
As a result, college friends went to African countries to collect data for research on malaria. They said that there should be an electronic database related to diseases in Pakistan. I hope that Dow University will definitely manage this because without data no research is possible. He offered that Dogana will fully cooperate in research and is willing to do research programs together with Dow.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Muhammad Saeed Quraishy said that Dow University wants to promote research culture; whatever is suitable will be financially supported in the projects presented. He said that we wanted to bring a revolutionized research culture at Dow University, i.e. to set new standards in health sciences education, so that our journey continues towards excellence in education, research, clinical care and community service and nationally a high standard can also be set at the surface.
Professor Muhammad Saeed Quraishy said that 18 new research projects have been granted to Dow University at the local, national and international levels this year. Prof. Muhammad Saeed Quraishy said that Dr. Mansoor Mohiuddin made the name of Dow famous in the world by performing the first xenotransplant. At the end of the ceremony, Vice Chancellor Prof. Muhammad Saeed Quraishy presented shields to the Chief Guest and speakers while presenting the best research project. Cash reward was also given to the researchers.
