NORTH CAROLINA : Michelle Hundley Smith, a mother of three who suddenly disappeared after going to a market in the US state of North Carolina, has been found alive after 24 years. Her daughter was overjoyed to hear the news. American media reported that after nearly 25 years, the harrowing and relentless search has come to an end and Michelle Hundley Smith has been found alive and well. The family appeared emotional as they shared the news of this major breakthrough for the mother of three. Family members kept asking police questions about the location, but it turned out that she was living her new life in a new place. When she went missing, her children had posted a missing persons notice saying, “Our mother will not leave her children of her own accord. They should be considered endangered if she goes missing.” Michelle Hundley Smith was 38 years old when she disappeared on December 9, 2001. She left her home in Eden to go Christmas shopping at a K-Mart store in Martinsville, Virginia, and never returned. “I don’t know if it will be possible to reconnect,” said daughter Amanda, “but my mother is just a human being like the rest of us.” Barbara Bird, a cousin of the woman who was found, said in a mixture of surprise and shock, “She’s alive, she’s alive… What happened all these years? What made you leave?” Although Michelle Hundley has been found, the sad thing is that her children will still not be able to meet her. So much has happened that the agony of the children’s search for their mother has ended.
