Mosaddek Hossain celebrates his match-winning performance against Australia in Dhaka.

The Bangladesh ODI campaign against Australia began in impressive fashion as the hosts secured an 86-run victory via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method in Dhaka. Moreover, Bangladesh produced a complete team performance to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

The result marked only Bangladesh’s second-ever ODI victory over Australia. Consequently, the win could provide significant momentum for the hosts as the series progresses.

Bangladesh ODI Success Driven By Mosaddek Hossain

Mosaddek Hossain delivered a memorable all-round display on his return to international cricket after four years. He remained unbeaten on 86 from 70 balls and later claimed two wickets.

His innings featured seven boundaries and three sixes. Furthermore, he built crucial partnerships that helped Bangladesh recover from several middle-order setbacks.

Mosaddek first combined with Towhid Hridoy for a 75-run stand. He then added valuable runs with Tanvir Islam and Taskin Ahmed to guide Bangladesh to a competitive total of 284 for eight.

According to the post-match presentation, Mosaddek earned the player-of-the-match award for his outstanding contribution.

Bangladesh ODI Batting Effort Sets Platform

Bangladesh lost Saif Hassan early after Nathan Ellis struck in the opening stages. However, Tanzid Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto quickly stabilized the innings.

Tanzid scored an aggressive 54 from 44 deliveries. Meanwhile, Shanto continued his strong form with a composed 67 from 86 balls.

The pair added 96 runs for the second wicket and shifted momentum back toward Bangladesh. As a result, Australia struggled to maintain control despite claiming wickets in the middle overs.

Australia also dropped six catches during the innings. Notably, four of those chances came off Mosaddek Hossain, allowing him to capitalize and build a match-defining knock.

Nahid Rana Dismantles Australia Chase

Australia’s chase began disastrously. Taskin Ahmed removed Matt Short with the first ball of the innings, while Mustafizur Rahman dismissed Marnus Labuschagne in the following over.

Consequently, Australia slipped to 2-2 and faced immediate pressure.

Nahid Rana then produced a decisive spell with four wickets. He dismissed Josh Inglis, Alex Carey, Liam Scott and Xavier Bartlett as Bangladesh’s pace attack dominated.

Alex Carey attempted to rebuild the innings with 47 runs. However, Rana’s extra pace and bounce proved difficult to handle throughout the chase.

Cameron Green Fights Lone Battle For Australia

Cameron Green remained Australia’s brightest performer with an unbeaten 52 from 66 balls. Nevertheless, he received little support from the lower order.

Cooper Connolly contributed 35 runs, while Carey added 47. Yet Bangladesh continued to strike at regular intervals and prevented any meaningful partnership from developing.

Matthew Renshaw, Liam Scott and Xavier Bartlett failed to make substantial contributions. Therefore, Australia’s chase never gained the momentum required to challenge the target.

Bangladesh ODI Victory Confirmed After Rain Interruption

Australia reached 191 for nine in 42.2 overs when a severe thunderstorm halted play at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

At that stage, the visitors still required 93 runs from 46 deliveries with only one wicket remaining. Subsequently, officials declared Bangladesh winners by 86 runs under the DLS method.

The victory gives Bangladesh an early advantage in the series. Meanwhile, Australia will look to respond strongly in the second ODI after a disappointing start.

Bangladesh’s combination of disciplined batting, aggressive pace bowling and key individual performances ultimately proved too much for the visitors. As the series continues, both teams will aim to build on the lessons learned from an eventful opening encounter.
