KARACHI, March 07 : The monthly meeting of Hamdard Shura Karachi chapter was held yesterday at
the Hamdard Corporate Head Office, chaired by Deputy Speaker Colonel (R) Mukhtar Ahmed Butt. The
theme centered around “Month of Fasting and Purification of Self.” During the meeting, esteemed Shura
members emphasized the importance of observing Ramazan with purity and dignity, urging people to
refrain from illegal profiteering and creating inflation. They highlighted that engaging in acts of worship,
particularly fasting during this holy month, holds special significance as a means to draw closer to Allah.
Colonel (R) Mukhtar Ahmed Butt expressed that Ramazan is a month of mercy, a sacred time to seek
forgiveness from Allah for our mistakes and errors. Merely mentioning Allah and seeking goodness and
mercy for ourselves during this holy month is not only an act of worship but also there is a need for
commitment to combat hoarding, fraud, corruption, exploitation, looting, selling of fake medicines and
other ills of society. Avoiding all wrongdoing and holding those responsible accountable is a path to gain
the blessings of Allah. On the 27th of Ramazan, Allah Pak blessed us with a gift of Pakistan. We must be
humble and thank Almighty for this.
Usman Damohi said that Muslim traders shoulder a dual responsibility during Ramazan. Firstly, strict
adherence to the ethical and trade principles mandated by Islam. This includes maintaining courteous
conduct in buying and selling, refraining from hoarding, avoiding the mixing of goods, preventing illegal
profiteering, transparently disclosing any defects in goods, ensuring accurate measurement and
weighing, and abstaining from making false promises in sales. Secondly, it involves abstaining from
actions that diminish the rewards of fasting for a Muslim, such as lying, backbiting, indulging in
meaningless conversations, swearing, engaging in idle talk, and participating in activities contrary to
Shariah.
Musarrat Akram said that Allah the Exalted has declared fasting as a means of self-purification and piety.
In essence, when an individual observes their fasts throughout this holy month while adhering to both
outward and inward virtues, they experience a transformation in behavior and character. This includes
sincerity, asceticism, patience, perseverance, and worship. Such qualities, fostered through fasting,
prevent a person from straying into misguided paths throughout the year. Instead, one can persistently
follow the path of goodness and purity.
Zafar Iqbal said that Islam extends beyond mere worship; it is a deen, therefore it encompasses a way of
life in harmony with nature. As Muslims, it is crucial for each of us to cultivate a sense of self-
accountability. The state of our society mirrors our own deeds and approach. If we exhibit goodness, our
society will reflect a positive picture. Therefore, prioritizing self-purification becomes significantly
important in this regard.
Engr. Anwar-ul-Haq said that our conduct during the blessed month reflects the significance it holds in
our hearts. If our nation engages in corruption and deceit during Ramazan Kareem, it indicates that
collectively, we may not be practicing Islam in the best manner. As Muslims, it is our responsibility to
introspect and encourage the younger generation to perform virtuous deeds. Allah values acts of service
to humanity, and through such actions, we can attain His blessings.
Amir Tasin said that mosques should actively speak out against the unjust practice of profiteering in
society. It is essential to persuade individuals that their Muslim identity should be evident in their
character. The hike in inflation has led to psychological problems within the nation, contributing to an
increase in crimes. Many of the social issues and ills can be addressed through politics.
Dr. Rizwana Ansari, Cdre. (Rtd) Sadeed Anwar Malik, Brig. (Rtd) Dr. Riaz Ahmed, Rizwan Ahmed, Prof.
Muhammad Rafi, Dr. Tanveer Khalid, and other members emphasized that inhumane atrocities are
unfolding in Gaza, and it is crucial to consider the plight of the oppressed Palestinians during this
challenging time, as they are enduring ongoing genocide. When providing financial assistance to
individuals, it is important to preserve their sense of dignity.
