Karachi : Mehreen Elahi of The Art Gallery participated in the gathering during the holy nights of Ramadan on March 25, 2025.
The show will run until April 10, 2025. The show was a calligraphy exhibition showcasing emerging artists titled: “Soul”. Participating artists included Irum Hameed, Affa Sheikh, Zahir Shah, Huma Tahs, Tajdar, Umaima Masood, Fatima Arezo Hassan and Syed Ali Sheikh. Its color palette was captivating and one painting was in Nastaliq while the other was Kufic..both of these paintings had the sun as a symbol. Umayma Masoud painted two whitish dervishes in burnt orange and red. Blue and gold colors.
He also chose specific verses for his large canvas. Iffat Sheikh created small canvases with Bismillah-ur-Rahman. Which were unique and gave the best gifts. Tay wss Nastaliq and the script used for modern and contemporary. The artist used the name of Allah and verses from the Quran.
Zahir Shah painted a small painting that was written in the Nastaliq style. Iram Hamid was painted in a local modern style with large canvases and white, with its modern script in green, white, and red colors. His composition seemed to have balance and harmony. Fatima Arzoo Hassan’s canvas was an abstract calligraphic statement and it was magnificent. Syed Ali Shah used a modern style with the pink hues of the clematis in his painting of small canvases.
The textured canvas and the interplay of blue and white colors were very pleasing to the eye. The painting was well-crafted with Allah written in white. Huma Tajdar introduced the msrbling technique on her canvas and then wrote the script on top. It created a real glow in the canvas. Written by Mehreen Elahi, the owner and co-host of the event, guests were treated to a sumptuous Iftar with homemade pakoras and potato kachori. The yogurt bars were soon gone. Lassie and Rooh Afza quenched the thirst of the fasting people while their eyes were fixed on the magnificent works of art.
