Parking is a very basic need for a citizen whether he is at the airport, retail shops, shopping plazas, schools, colleges or universities.
Hence parking spaces in Karachi has become one of the biggest problems nowadays for the citizens as wherever they go there is a sign of no parking or they find a full parking area. Now let’s discuss the reasons why parking spaces have become an issue in Karachi.
The number one reason for the parking space problem is Karachi’s fast growing car ownership rate, if we look around, we observe that each family has 3-4 cars or more but their need is 1 or 2. Another reason can be that there are no proper parking spots. If I tell the ratio, if 10 cars visit that shop, there is only 1 parking spot available. As a result, people park their cars on service lanes, shop entrances and on the roads even! Which results in heavy traffic and bad accidents.
The possible solutions to this problem are that the government should issue more parking areas by calculating the traffic of the cars. Secondly the citizens should be educated that they should buy cars according to their need. I hope and pray that the government takes this issue seriously and work on it as fast as they can.
