The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has officially rolled out the “Ehsaas Apna Ghar Scheme,” a flagship initiative offering interest-free loans of up to Rs 1.5 million for home construction. According to Special Assistant for Housing, Dr. Amjad Ali, the scheme targets individuals earning less than Rs 100,000 per month, with a repayment plan spanning seven years and monthly installments set at Rs 18,000.
Eligibility criteria include owning a plot or house no larger than 5 marla, being between 18 and 55 years of age, and having a valid CNIC and active bank account. Applicants must also be residents of KP and possess either a Pakhtunkhwa Housing Authority balloting certificate or proof of land ownership.
The project is part of the Provincial Development Program and aims to support the poor and lower middle class by offering Sharia-compliant financial assistance for building, renovating, or expanding homes. In the first phase, 5,309 houses will be supported at a cost of Rs 4 billion. Over the next seven years, the scheme will expand to cover 11,196 homes, with the total investment expected to reach Rs 8.95 billion.
The Bank of Khyber will serve as the official partner for disbursing the loans, under a formal agreement signed on December 13, 2024. The project received cabinet approval on October 24 and was later cleared by the Development and Planning Department.
