Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has announced a comprehensive plan to restore law and order in the province, emphasizing that it is the government’s top priority. The plan comes in response to an uptick in terrorist activities, particularly in KP and Balochistan, following the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan’s (TTP) decision to end its ceasefire with the government in November 2022.
Gandapur’s announcement comes after a late-night attack on a police station in Dera Ismail Khan was repulsed, and in December last year, militants from the Tehreek-i-Jihad Pakistan (TJP) stormed a military compound in Daraban, resulting in the martyrdom of 23 soldiers and injuries to over 30 troops.
According to a security report, Pakistan witnessed a record six-year high in violence-related fatalities and injuries in 2023, with KP and Balochistan being the primary centers of violence.
During his first visit to Dera Ismail Khan as chief minister, Gandapur assured the implementation of the security plan soon, emphasizing its importance for the progress of the region. He also pledged to enhance safety measures for police and other forces in light of the increased terror attacks.
In addition to addressing security concerns, Gandapur outlined plans to improve healthcare facilities by reinstating the Sehat Card facility and enhancing treatment options at public hospitals. He also announced a Ramazan package, providing Rs10,000 to 850,000 deserving families in the province.
To tackle inflation, the chief minister pledged to provide business opportunities to the people and create employment opportunities for women and youth through skill training.
Gandapur highlighted the importance of food security and announced plans to construct small dams to address water scarcity. He reiterated his commitment to transform KP into a model province by focusing on revenue generation and cooperation with the federal government to improve the economic situation of the country.
Gandapur called on the media to play its role in highlighting the real issues faced by the public, stating that the KP government would welcome constructive criticism and take appropriate action in response.
