KARACHI – Karachi has once again emerged as Pakistan’s top taxpaying city, contributing a staggering Rs2,522 billion in taxes, according to a Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) report on tax collections for the fiscal year 2023-24.
The report, compiled geographically, ranks Lahore as the second-highest taxpaying city, followed by Islamabad in third place.
Karachi’s Large Tax Office (LTO) was responsible for the impressive Rs2,522 billion tax collection, which included over Rs1,360 billion in income tax and Rs1,000 billion in sales tax. The federal excise duty collected from the city stood at Rs136.3 million.
In comparison, Lahore’s LTO collected Rs1,402 billion, while Islamabad’s LTO recorded a total tax collection of Rs1,164 billion during the same period.
