Karachi: A low-lying city in Pakistan, Karachi, is preparing for possible rain and thunder showers today as per the forecast given by the meteorological department. The weather as of now is partly cloudy with temperatures slightly above 32 degrees centigrade and relative humidity of 70% with expectations that it will rain lightly starting in this evening. But it is also possible to go up to the highest of 37 degrees Celsius before the end of the day.
In this weather outlook, the risks of floods particularly in urban areas act as a big worry given that Karachi’s drainage system has not been well maintained. Newspapers note that constant efforts to unblock the drains have proved fruitless, making people worried that if the rain increases as forecasted, the floods are inevitable.
It is greatly recommended that residents do not panic but be cautious and take the required measures. Risk control measures involve ensuring one is up to date with the latest weather reports and following safety measures posted by local administrations. Also, there are recommendations to stay away from flood prone areas and also check for any blockage in the draining system around residences and commercial businesses.
However, other areas of Pakistan are also likely to have changes in the weather conditions in the coming days. The Meteorological Department has predicted that light rain and thunder are expected in several areas of Sindh, northeast, and south Balochistan. Also, for today, areas like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeast and south Punjab, Potohar, etc., are expected to experience rain.
In Islamabad, it will also be hot and humid to thunderstorms showers with possibility of thunderstorms and heavy rain at night. Such authorities are urging people in these areas to monitor forecasts and to proceed with caution during transportation or planning outdoor activities.
This week the situation remains tense and authorities report on changes and provide guidelines for the people’s protection when necessary.
