Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau said in case you missed it: We’re extending the current rates for the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy, the Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy, and Lockdown Support until June 5th. With this extension, the maximum rate for the wage subsidy will remain at 75% and the maximum rate for the rent subsidy will remain at 65%. For businesses in communities that are locked down, Lockdown Support will remain at 25% – which will boost rent support up to 90%.
Justin Trudeau to date, the wage subsidy has supported millions of workers and the rent subsidy has helped many business owners. I’ve met with some of them over the past year, including Luc last June. Luc owns Régimbal Awards and Promotions in Ottawa, which was hit hard by the first wave of the pandemic. They went down to three employees and weren’t sure they’d be able to keep their doors open. But with the wage subsidy and rent support, they were able to rehire their staff and keep things running.
Across the country, there are many stories just like Luc’s. If you’re a business owner too, and you’re interested in learning how these programs can help your business, or if you’re looking for more information on the extensions we announced yesterday, click here
