Awan, owner of a private motor company showroom, was shot during an attempted robbery near Shahzad Town last night and later succumbed to his injuries at Shifa International Hospital.
Police formed 17 teams, geo-fenced six locations, analyzed 257 CCTV feeds, compared 137 call records, and interrogated 93 individuals. Five suspects were taken into custody, including members of the notorious Mansoor Khan dacoit gang active across Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Weapons, including a Kalashnikov, were recovered during 31 raids in multiple cities.
Inspector General Syed Nasir Rizvi described the investigation as a model case demonstrating how AI and surveillance technologies can enhance policing. State Minister for Interior Talal Chaudhry praised the Islamabad Police for swiftly apprehending the suspects and highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen law enforcement in the capital, including fully operational Safe City cameras and plans for Pakistan’s first fully integrated AI-supported policing system.
Chaudhry emphasized that Islamabad’s law enforcement faces unique challenges due to the presence of diplomats, international delegations, and foreign business figures, and reiterated that new initiatives aim to ensure public safety and effective crime prevention.
