KARACHI PAKISTAN – The International Day of Diplomats was celebrated on 24th October, 2023 at BAIGS, attended by for foreign diplomats and honorary consuls of different countries in Karachi.
The International Day of Diplomats first was proposed by the Ambassador of Bangladesh to the United Nations, Masud Bin Momen, during his tenure as the President of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in 2017. The proposal was supported by several countries and subsequently adopted by the United Nations General Assembly. Since then, the day has been observed annually on October 24th to honor the work and contributions of diplomats worldwide.
Diplomats governed under Vienna Convention on Consular Relations 1963 have historically played crucial role in shaping global affairs, facilitating dialogue between countries, and working towards peaceful resolutions. The International Day of Diplomats serves as a reminder of the importance of diplomacy in addressing global challenges, promoting understanding among nations, and upholding the principles of diplomacy, dialogue, and negotiation in international relations. Through various events and initiatives, the day honors diplomats’ contributions and underscores the significance of diplomacy in building a harmonious world.
1st International Day of Diplomats was celebrated in Brazil on 24 October 2017. Since then, it is been celebrated every year.
As President Honorary Consular Corps Sindh Karachi has 73 honorary consuls representing different countries in Karachi Pakistan,Dr. Ikhtiar Baig congratulated fellow diplomats and distinguished guests on this auspicious occasion and resolved to work together to enhance trade, investment and bilateral relations between the countries we are representing and Pakistan.
