Karachi, 19 December: A landmark initiative aimed at supporting the continued development of Islamic banking and finance in Pakistan was marked with the inauguration of the Irfan Siddiqui Center for Advancement of Islamic Finance at the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA).
The Center has been established to commemorate Mr. Irfan Siddiqui, widely recognized as a pioneer and leading architect of modern, full-fledged Islamic banking in Pakistan, in recognition of his visionary leadership, institution-building role, and exemplary contributions to the sector.
Under his stewardship, Islamic banking evolved from a niche concept to a mainstream component of the country’s financial system, supported by strengthened governance and wider market acceptance. The dedication ceremony was led by Dr. Syed Saif ur Rehman PAS, TI (Director General, NIPA) while the Center was formally inaugurated by Mr. Irfan Siddiqui, Founder, President and CEO of Meezan Bank.
In his remarks, Dr. Saif ur Rehman noted Mr. Siddiqui’s pioneering role in institutionalizing Islamic banking, strengthening structured Shariah governance, and developing professional capacity within the Islamic finance sector. He noted that Mr. Siddiqui’s legacy as an outgoing CEO extends beyond institutional success to the enduring foundation, he has laid for Pakistan’s Islamic finance ecosystem.
Delivering the keynote address, Mr. Irfan Siddiqui expressed his deep gratitude for the honor and emphasized the importance of ethical leadership, sound governance, and value-based financial systems in shaping inclusive economic growth.
The Irfan Siddiqui Center for Advancement of Islamic Finance is envisioned as a dedicated platform for education, research, and professional development. It aims to contribute to the long-term growth, credibility, and global relevance of Islamic finance in Pakistan, while standing as a lasting tribute to Mr. Irfan Siddiqui’s transformational leadership and distinguished service to the industry.
