Karachi: Imran Tesori, a prominent figure in the gold and jewelery industry, has been elected unopposed as the Chairman of the Pakistan Gems and Jewelery Traders and Exporters Association (PGJTEA). Tesori has expressed its determination to work hard to solve the challenges faced by the industry and to develop it. Special attention will be paid to increasing the export of jewelery from Pakistan. Currently, Pakistan’s gold jewelery exports have reached 12 million US dollars. Treasury aims to increase this amount to US$ 5 billion, provided the government makes necessary reforms, particularly changes to SRO 760 to suit the needs of exporters. He stressed that a proposal detailing these changes has been submitted to the concerned ministry and though meetings have been held with the relevant institutions, no progress has been made so far. In addition to his new position, Imran Tesori also serves as Advisor to the President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) on Government Affairs, Trade, and Foreign Investment. Last year, Imran Tesori also contested the FPCCI elections for the post of Vice President, which is an indication of his active participation in the business community. Tesori has promised that during his tenure he will bring all stakeholders together and address the issues facing the industry. He is optimistic that his proposals will be approved, which will enable the jewelery industry to play a major role in increasing the country’s foreign exchange and revitalizing the economy.
