Karachi 30 November 2023 – In a resounding display of environmental stewardship, students from ILMA University took the helm in a concerted effort to preserve the natural beauty of Karachi’s iconic Clifton Beach. Organizing a beach cleaning activity on a bright Saturday morning, the students passionately joined forces to combat the litter and pollution plaguing this scenic coastal area.
Armed with gloves, trash bags, and an unwavering commitment to make a difference, the enthusiastic cohort of students descended upon the shoreline. Undeterred by the task at hand, they diligently scoured the sands, meticulously collecting plastic waste, discarded wrappers, and other debris that had marred the beach’s splendor.
The initiative, led by the university’s Faculty of Management Sciences , garnered active participation from students across various academic disciplines. Their collective determination and dedication echoed a clarion call for heightened environmental consciousness and community engagement.
Maheen Khan, a second-year student majoring in business studies emphasized the significance of such activities in fostering a culture of environmental responsibility. “It’s not just about cleaning the beach today; it’s about instilling a sense of responsibility and respect for our natural spaces. Small actions like these, when multiplied, can create a significant impact on our environment,” she stated.
The beach cleaning drive not only served as a means to restore Clifton Beach’s pristine charm but also stood as a poignant reminder of the urgent need for sustainable practices and heightened awareness about marine conservation.
As the students meticulously combed through the sand, their efforts drew the attention of beachgoers and passersby, sparking conversations about the importance of preserving coastal ecosystems and the detrimental effects of littering on marine life.
Dr. Raja Rehan, the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences, praised the students’ proactive initiative, stating, “It’s heartening to witness our students taking the lead in championing environmental causes. Their dedication and passion underscore the university’s commitment to nurturing responsible global citizens.”
The beach cleaning activity culminated with a sense of accomplishment among the students, as they surveyed the noticeably cleaner stretch of Clifton Beach. Their resolve remains unwavering as they vow to continue organizing similar initiatives and advocating for a cleaner, greener future for Karachi’s coastal areas. This endeavor by the students of ILMA University stands as a shining example of proactive community involvement and serves as an inspiration for others to join hands in safeguarding our natural heritage.
