Karachi : The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is all set to organize ‘Humanitarian Reporting Awards 2018’ in coordination with the Centre for Excellence in Journalism (CEJ) at the Institute of Business Administration.
The objective of the awards is to acknowledge, appreciate and embrace the unrecognized efforts of humanitarian reporters, who out of their comfort zones, manage to capture and pen down the humanitarian crises like violence against healthcare, disaster reporting, issues related to people with disabilities, disaster response/preparedness, and other similar issues.
The three humanitarian beat categories for which journalists’ contributions will be awarded include Mainstream Broadcast (Urdu), Mainstream Print & Online (Urdu) and Mainstream Print & Online (English). Over 200 entries were received from across Pakistan which were rigorously evaluated by a panel of Pakistan’s veteran journalists followed by the selection of the winning journalists.
Sharing his thoughts on the event, Kamal Siddiqi, CEJ-IBA Director, said,
“This is the second consecutive year that we have joined hands with the ICRC for Humanitarian Reporting Awards. We are pleased to have organized this very successful workshop followed by recognition of the humanitarian reporting our brave and talented journalists are doing for the second year in a row.”
Also commenting on the event, Najum Abbasi, Head of Communications at ICRC, said that,
“The aim of ICRC Humanitarian Awards is to acknowledge and appreciate the efforts of humanitarian journalists whose struggles of covering different aspects of humanitarian crises and plight of the people affected are itself inspiring. The award ceremony is scheduled to be held on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at the CEJ office – Aman Tower, IBA Saddar Campus; where the shortlisted winners and runners-up will receive the awards amid noted journalists.
