Karachi: In a landmark development bolstering the longstanding friendship between Iran and Pakistan, the official visit of the esteemed President of Iran to Pakistan has culminated in significant strides across various fronts. The visit, which encompassed pivotal meetings in Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi, underscored the deep-rooted bonds between the two brotherly nations.

Amidst the backdrop of regional dynamics, discussions between high-ranking officials from both countries delved into crucial matters spanning political, commercial, security, and cultural spheres. Notably, the Palestinian issue took center stage, with both sides vehemently condemning the Israeli regime’s actions and urging intervention by the UN Security Council to curtail its destabilizing activities in the region.

One of the key outcomes of the visit was a mutual commitment to elevate bilateral trade to unprecedented levels, aiming for an ambitious target of $10 billion annually. Efforts to enhance trade and energy cooperation, including the long-awaited gas pipeline deal, received renewed impetus, signaling a promising trajectory for economic collaboration.

Furthermore, agreements were reached to expedite the finalization of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and to convene forthcoming sessions of vital forums such as the Annual Bilateral Political Consultations (BPC) and Joint Business Trade Committee (JBTC). The declaration of the ‘Reemdan border point’ as an international crossing under TIR and the facilitation of border sustenance markets exemplify tangible steps towards fortifying connectivity and trade facilitation.

In a significant gesture of goodwill, both nations pledged to release prisoners and facilitate extradition processes in accordance with established treaties. On the security front, a unified stance against terrorism was reiterated, with a firm commitment to collaborative efforts in combating this common threat to regional stability.

Crucially, Pakistan and Iran reaffirmed their shared commitment to supporting Afghanistan’s development and enhancing cooperation in counter-terrorism efforts. Acknowledging the importance of inclusive decision-making in Afghanistan, they emphasized the need for broader participation to foster lasting peace and stability in the region.

Addressing Pakistan’s energy needs, constructive negotiations on the gas pipeline project paved the way for sustainable energy supply from Iran to its neighbor. Recognizing the significance of energy for Pakistan’s economic growth, Iran has stepped up its support by increasing electricity exports to vital regions, such as Baluchistan and Gwadar.

The culmination of these agreements signifies a new chapter in Iran-Pakistan relations, offering promising prospects for economic growth and mutual prosperity. With a shared vision for a stable, prosperous region, both nations are poised to overcome economic challenges and forge ahead on a path of cooperation and friendship.
