After the super rains & floods hit Karachi in August & September 2020, the Houston Karachi Sister City Association (HKSCA), Alliance for Disaster Relief (AFDR), came forward to send help through credible 501 (c) (3) organization Helping Hand for Relief and Development (in short HHRD or Helping Hand USA).
HHRD provided help to over 100,000 persons to Super Floods victims in Pakistan; out of whom 10,000 persons were supported through the Giving of Syed Javaid Anwar of Midland Energy (Patron-in-Chief of AFDR & HKSCA). This support was given through hot meals with clean bottled water, 60+ free mobile healthcare clinics with medicines, and grocery distributions.
At that time, Houstonian Community also sent two 40-feet containers in mid-November & December 2020. For these two 40 feet containers, the entities that have Collaborated include the Consulate General of Pakistan Houston, Houston Karachi Sister City Association (HKSCA), Alliance For Disaster Relief Houston (AFDR), Pakistan Students Association of University of Houston (PSA U-of-H), University of Karachi Alumni Association of Houston, Helping Hand for Relief and Development (HHRD / Helping Hand USA), House of Charity, Sana Trust, and several community donors & volunteers.
These containers including brand new winter jackets, comforters, shoes, socks, clothes, umbrellas, toys, schools supply, and much more; have reached Karachi.
Provisions of these Containers will be distributed in various parts of the City of Karachi by HHRD through ceremonies called “Mall of Humanity”, in which around 2,000 families (more than 10,000 persons), who have been affected by the earlier Floods are being invited to a location, where the Containers items are professionally placed; people are given standard fake currency or coupons to pick up items of their choice & sizes. First Container of Houston CommunityBeing distributed in Karachi to people affected by Aug-Sept-2020floods at the1st Mall of Humanity which was held on Saturday, January 30, 2021; at Surjani Town, Karimi Chorangi, Yousuf Goth, Karachi to 200 benefiting families (more than 1,000 persons) and the 2nd Mall of Humanity was held on Sunday, January 31, 2021; at Muhajir Park, Nasir Colony, Korangi Town, Karachi500 benefiting families (more than 2,500 persons).
“This is very dignified, fulfilling, and appealing manner of distributing the compassionate gifts sent for people in need by the Sister City of Karachi, that is Houston, Texas, USA.”
These were the general sentiments of those, who have attended the first two Malls of Humanity of these efforts on January 30th& 31st, 2021.
Present at these Malls of Humanity were Muhammad Kashif Ghayas, Umair Basha, Mr. Kamran Mirza, & other Executives of Karachi Sister City Association (KSCA); Naeem Arshad Awan, Programs Manager of In-Kind Gifts HHRD Pakistan; Muhammad Adeel, Karachi Region Manager of HHRD Pakistan; Syed Mohsin, HHRD Pakistan Manager of In-Kind Gifts Dept Karachi; and several community volunteers.
By the Grace of God, everyone appreciated these Gifts from Houstonians and expressed their thanks to all Collaborating organizations for arranging well-organized Malls of Humanity.
During the month of February 2021, more Malls of Humanity will be arranged, as items from the 1st Container, and then the 2nd Container will be distributed.
