Drone strikes on Israel Hamas confirms ‘inherent right’ of nations in the Middle East to protect themselves ‘against Zionist hostilities’.
The Palestinian Hamas organization has shown solidarity with Iran after it launched numerous missiles and drones at Israel in response to a deadly attack on its consulate in Damascus, Syria.
In a statement released on Saturday, Hamas, which governs the Gaza Strip, stated that it supports “the inherent right” of countries and peoples in the Middle East to defend themselves “against Zionist aggressions”.
“The military action conducted by Iran against the Zionist entity is an inherent right and a justified response to the attack on the consulate in Damascus,” the statement read.
The Iranian barrage, launched late on Saturday night, included over 300 cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, and drones, according to the Israeli military. An Israeli spokesperson stated that 99 percent of the projectiles were intercepted, with assistance from France, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that it carried out the drone and missile strikes as part of Operation True Promise in retaliation for “the Zionist entity’s attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria” on April 1.
The assault in Damascus resulted in the deaths of 13 individuals, including two high-ranking generals in the IRGC’s elite Quds Force.
Israel has not officially claimed responsibility for the consulate attack.
Iran’s mission to the United Nations declared the issue “resolved” and cautioned Israel of a “significantly harsher” response if the “Israeli regime repeats its mistake”.
