In a major initiative to promote eco-friendly transportation and reduce carbon emissions, the government has announced plans to distribute over 40,000 electric bikes and rickshaws to individuals at subsidized rates.

This decision was made during a meeting chaired by the Minister of Industries and Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain, as part of discussions on the country’s electric vehicle (EV) policy.

The government will also distribute electric motorcycles to the top 120 students of the Federal Board of Education, further encouraging the use of sustainable transport among young people. Alongside this, the government will provide 39,000 electric bikes and 1,900 electric rickshaws on concession, making them more accessible to the general public.

During the meeting, the minister also highlighted the installation of 40 charging stations along national highways and motorways to support the growing adoption of electric vehicles. Officials were directed to ensure that EV charging stations are also set up at petrol pumps to facilitate convenient access for electric vehicle owners across the country.

Minister Tanveer Hussain emphasized that the electric vehicle policy will be formally announced soon, aiming to cut down carbon emissions and address the ongoing air pollution issues in the country. The policy is expected to play a key role in reducing the country’s dependence on fossil fuels while promoting cleaner, more sustainable transportation options.

In addition to these national initiatives, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has also announced four technical training programs aimed at empowering the youth in the province. This initiative is designed to equip young people with the necessary skills to contribute to the growing electric vehicle industry.

Similarly, the Punjab government has launched a program offering electric bikes to students on easy installment plans, making it easier for the younger population to transition to electric mobility.

This coordinated effort between federal and provincial governments marks a significant step towards reducing Pakistan’s environmental footprint and accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles nationwide.
