KARACHI: The people of Karachi are about to have their gas supply interrupted because of the required improvements to fundamental infrastructure. Gas will be shut off in several areas of the city from 5 a.m. on July 28 to 5 a.m. on July 30 to connect a new 31km transmission pipeline to the gas system.
The upgrade entails replacing a 24-inch diameter pipeline that is meant to improve the existing gas infrastructure and boost availability in the region.
The affected areas include all blocks of:
- Surjani Town
- North Karachi
- Manghopir
- Qasba Colony
- Orangi Town
- North Nazimabad
- Federal B Area
- Gulberg
- Buffer Zone
- SITE area
- Baldia Town
- Etihad Town
- Mauripur
- Gulshan-e-Maimar
- Ahsanabad
- SITE Superhighway and surrounding areas
People living and working in these areas are encouraged to take necessary precautions and prepare for contingencies that may arise due to this temporary closure. The management of the gas company has assured that supply will commence as planned immediately connection is made.
The upgrade is one of the ongoing projects meant to enhance the efficiency of the city’s gas supply system in the future. However, it is anticipated that the project shall be of benefit to the region as it will help in avoiding future disruptions of supplies and improve service delivery.
The gas company representative affirmed that steps would be taken to ensure that the inconvenience caused by the interruption is kept to the barest minimum and appreciated the cooperation of the residents throughout the upgrade process.
