United States: On September 18, FBI Director Christopher Wray announced a big win against a Chinese botnet at the Aspen Cyber Summit. This botnet, run by a hacker group called Flax Typhoon, affected thousands of devices like cameras and storage systems, mainly targeting businesses and government agencies.
The FBI worked with partners to find and remove harmful software from the affected devices, freeing many in the U.S. Wray revealed that Flax Typhoon is linked to a company called Integrity Technology Group, whose chairman admitted to helping Chinese intelligence.
Wray warned that cyber threats are ongoing, saying, “This is just one round in a much longer fight.” He also highlighted the FBI’s efforts to help cybercrime victims, noting they’ve provided nearly 1,000 tools to recover data and saved victims about $800 million in ransom payments.
Additionally, Wray updated the public on the investigation into an assassination attempt on former President Trump, assuring everyone that the FBI is working hard to uncover the truth.
