FBI Director Christopher Wray has appointed Jay Greenberg as the assistant director of the Inspection Division at FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C. The division is responsible for conducting internal investigations, reviewing operational performance and use-of-enforcement authorities in all investigative programs, and conducting special inquiries.
Greenberg, who most recently served as the special agent in charge of the St. Louis Field Office, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He joined the FBI in 2005 as a special agent and has since held various positions of increasing responsibility.
During his tenure, Greenberg has investigated civil rights violations, public corruption, and government fraud. He has also served in supervisory roles, including as a section chief in the Violent Crimes Section at FBI Headquarters, where he played a key role in the FBI’s domestic and international violent crime efforts.
In addition to his investigative work, Greenberg has led efforts to address hate crimes and has been instrumental in implementing the FBI’s body-worn camera program. He has also been involved in resource reallocation efforts, including reallocating resources to the Oklahoma City Field Office following a Supreme Court decision that increased the FBI’s investigative responsibilities in Indian Country in Oklahoma.
Before joining the FBI, Greenberg earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Texas A&M University and worked in management and technical consulting.
In his new role, Greenberg will oversee the Inspection Division’s important work of ensuring the integrity and effectiveness of FBI operations.
