Dr Arif Alvi is the country’s fourth democratically elected president to complete a five-year term
A send-off Guard of Honor was presented to the outgoing President Dr. Arif Alvi at the President House in Islamabad, marking the conclusion of his five-year term. Dr. Alvi is the fourth democratically elected president in Pakistan to complete a full term.
The three presidents before Dr. Alvi who completed their full terms were Chaudhary Fazal Elahi (fifth president, from 1973 to 1978), Asif Ali Zardari (11th, from 2008 to 2013), and Mamnoon Hussain (12th, from 2013 to 2018). Dr. Alvi is the third consecutive president to serve a full term.
The next presidential election is scheduled for March 9, where the president will be elected by members of both houses of parliament, including the Senate and the National Assembly, as well as the four provincial assemblies.
Dr. Arif Alvi, a distinguished professional in the field of Dentistry, has held several significant positions. He served as the Dean of Orthodontics at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan, President of the Pakistan Dental Association (1997-2001), Pakistan Association of Orthodontists (2005), and the Asia Pacific Dental Federation (2006-07). He was also a Councilor of the World Dental Federation (2007-2013). Dr. Alvi’s efforts led to the declaration of March 20 as World Oral Health Day by the World Dental Federation. He is also an author of a book, theses, and numerous articles.
