Ethiopian business community expresses interest in Joint Ventures with Pakistani Companies in Pharmaceutical, Steel, Textile Rice, Agro processing, Technology, Oilseeds, Coffee, Tea and surgical equipment sectors.

Karachi, May 9, 2023: “The African continent is currently at a critical juncture in its history, owing to its promising economic potential, which is paving way for Pakistan-African Joint investment cooperation in various fields of the economy. As people-to-people contact is an effective instrument for encouraging joint investment endeavors, the Pakistan- Ethiopian Business Forum will play a pivotal role in establishment and strengthening of investment ties with the business community from the African continent”, said Additional Secretary Board of Investment, Mr. Jamil Ahmad Qureshi. 

He expressed these thoughts in the context of the Pakistan-Ethiopia Business Forum held on Tuesday, 9th May 2023 in Karachi.  

The Deputy Prime Minister of Ethiopia accompanied by the Ministers for Science and Technology and Minister for Investment, led a business delegation from Ethiopian in sectors including Pharmaceutical, Steel, Textile Rice, Agro processing, Technology, Oilseeds, Coffee, Tea and surgical equipment to Pakistan on the inaugural flight of Ethiopian Airlines in Karachi, Pakistan. 

Mr. Jamil Ahmad Qureshi, Additional Secretary, BOI welcomed the Ethiopian delegates and informed that being at the crossroads between Central and South Asia, it is encouraging for Pakistan to successfully establish itself as a suitable investment destination. 

He delivered a detailed presentation on investment opportunities in Pakistan in key sectors of interest to the delegation and also appreciated the speedy economic growth achieved by Ethiopia. 

He informed that the Board of Investment, Islamabad, is all set to jointly facilitate in materializing the envisaged joint benefits and facilitate mutual avenues of investment and Joint ventures. Agriculture, Health care & pharmaceuticals, minerals, IT, Engineering and tourism as potential areas of cooperation between Pakistan and Africa”, he informed. 

Furthermore, the queries raised by Ethiopian investors were also responded by the Additional Secretary BOI at the event.  He also appreciated the efforts of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan for organizing a successful forum.
