Karachi: In continuation of the nationwide campaign against substandard and unlicensed products, the Pakistan Standards & Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) has expanded its enforcement operations across Punjab. In view of the large number of citizens observing fasts during the holy month of Ramadan, PSQCA has formulated
a special strategy to ensure public health and safety standards. Accordingly, enforcement teams have been placed in the field to closely monitor markets and safeguard consumers from substandard food and essential items.
Acting on the special directives of Director General PSQCA, Dr. Sayeda Zia Batool, enforcement teams from the Conformity Assessment (CA) Lahore Zone, in collaboration with the District Administration, conducted a targeted operation at Township Sahulat Bazar, Lahore.
Simultaneously, PSQCA’s Faisalabad Liaison Office carried out raids in local markets to verify compliance of industrial and consumer goods with mandatory Pakistan Standards. During the operations, a significant quantity of “mandatory articles’ including spices, dairy products, cooking oil, and personal care items was de-shelved
for being sold without the valid Pakistan Standard Mark (PS Mark) or requisite certification license. Notices were issued to stallholders and shopkeepers, directing immediate cessation of unlicensed sales, as such practices are punishable under the PSQCA Act, 1996.
Speaking on the occasion, a PSQCA spokesperson reiterated that no compromise would be made on public health and safety. “Our enforcement teams are actively monitoring markets to ensure that only compliant products reach consumers, especially during Ramzan. We urge citizens to verify the PS Mark and License
Number on product labels before purchasing,” the spokesperson added.
The Authority has also encouraged the public to report any suspected counterfeit or uncertified products for prompt action. This drive reflects PSQCA’s continued commitment to fostering a “Quality Culture” and ensuring consumer protection across the country.
