Election Commission ordered to ensure local elections in Karachi on October 23

The Sindh High Court, while hearing the petitions against the delay in the second phase of local elections in Sindh, ordered the Election Commission to ensure the holding of local elections in Karachi on October 23.

The Supreme Court has ordered the Election Commission to ensure the holding of local body elections in Karachi on October 23 and has directed us to give a written assurance of the elections.

The petitioner’s counsel took the position that the Election Commission has deliberately postponed the municipal elections scheduled for July 24.

The petitioner’s counsel argued that the Election Commission itself had earlier said that so much expenditure had been incurred that it could not postpone the elections and after that the municipal elections were postponed by rescheduling August 28.

On which the court gave remarks and said that let the response of the parties come, they will examine everything in detail.

The court adjourned the hearing of the petitions till October 25.
