Karachi: Prof Dr. Farhan Essa Abdullah, CEO of Laboratory & Diagnostic Centre Official is conducting a session with children on mental well-being and techniques for boosting oneself during times of pressure.
As he said, “Do not worry about what others think of you- It is none of your business.” If imbibed, this habit can help one be immune to what others think or do and instead, be aware of what one thinks or does.
What confidence, freedom, and determination in that single habit that one can develop! Banishing the possibility of taking anything personally is one of the most liberating and healing activities for the mind. As we start realizing that what they are doing or saying is not directed at us and is a reality for them, we can then free ourselves from suffering that we do not have to go through.
This mindset allows us to:
1. Develop a sense of detachment: That is why we are not victims of other people’s attitudes and behaviors.
2. Reduce emotional reactivity: There is less likelihood of someone responding to a provocation and starting a fight that is not necessary.
3. Cultivate empathy: Thus, we can conclude that people’s actions always stem from their problems and transference.
4. Focus on our journey: Instead of suffering from a toxic environment, we can take personal responsibility for our progress without concentrating on other people’s criticism.
The fourth tool called taking nothing personally is a skill that practice and indeed we gain more peace, freedom, and joy in our lives.
