Karachi: Vice Chancellor of Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), Professor Muhammad Saeed Quraishy has stated that a report on deaths in American hospitals reveals that 11% of deaths in those hospitals are not due to medical reasons but other causes. Such causes can be addressed through health innovation ideas generated by students, such as projects addressing environmental pollution, etc. He expressed these thoughts while inaugurating the annual Health Innovation Exhibition, organized in collaboration with DUHS and the National Idea Bank (NIB), on Tuesday. Earlier, Professor Muhammad Saeed Quraishy delivered the formal address as Chief Guest, he cut the ribbon to officially inaugurate the event. On this occasion, Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Nazli Hussain, Principal of Dow Medical College Professor Saba Sohail, Principal of International Medical College Professor Zeba Haq, Chief Organizer Professor Kashif Shafique, and other faculty members were also present.

Vice Chancellor, Prof. M. Saeed Quraishy in his address said that NIB has been created under the patronizing of President of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi whereas it is to foster innovation, creativity and progress and the example of this is that there are two universities are participating in this completion along with DUHS. It will lead ideas coming up and solution being giving and project created to make a positive impact on our economy and society. The important thing is that this idea bank is not limited to just one area. It is wide spread and multiple sectors can take part in it and come up with their own idea and these ideas can lead to commercial proposition and these commercial propositions will be the way forward.
Prof. Dr. Kashif Shafique, Director Office of Research, Innovation & Commercialization DUHS and the Chief Organizer of the Event, is his address said that NIB is a platform to recognize and support innovative ideas in Pakistan. The outstanding ideas will not only get recognition but also chances for further implementation as industrial integration or investor’s attraction. It is glad to share that in this Competition, more than 100 projects are being presented.
