Amid rising rumors on social media about his resignation, Supreme Court (SC) senior-most judge, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, has firmly rejected the claims, asserting that he has not stepped down from his position.
Speaking informally in Islamabad on Saturday, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah dismissed the reports, saying, “These are just speculations. I will not flee. I will continue the job that I can do.”
Earlier, in his speech at the Federal Judicial Academy in Islamabad, Justice Mansoor addressed the topic of child justice, emphasizing the judiciary’s responsibility to protect the rights of children. He highlighted that children, like adults, have the right to express themselves, which is often overlooked in legal proceedings.
Justice Mansoor lamented that, too often, when a juvenile appears in court, they are not given an opportunity to speak. “We will have to listen to children,” he said firmly, emphasizing that judges should consider the perspectives of children in legal matters.
He called for the establishment of specialized children’s courts in Pakistan to ensure cases involving minors are heard swiftly. “Cases involving children should be addressed promptly,” he stressed, urging the justice system to reflect on its approach to children’s issues.
Justice Mansoor also spoke about the need to change the judicial treatment of children, noting that public interest cases can lead to significant improvements. He highlighted the importance of recognizing that children are not only the future but the present, and their rights must be protected.
