KARACHI – Ismail Suttar, President of Employers Federation of Pakistan (EFP), the Apex Body of Manufacturers of Pakistan, has raised the question why industries have to suffer at the behest of failed management from top to bottom and ill-thought-out terms of settlements with the Independent Power Producers (IPPs), resulting in mass load-shedding amid lack of development of transmission and distribution lines
In a statement, the EFP president explained that earlier the SSGC had inadvertently cut supply of gas for industries in Hub without prior notification and now gas supply is being diverted to the monopolistic power supply mafia of Karachi that is K-Electric. Where there is a need for rapid industrialization, the government is instead halting industrial production on which millions of white-collar jobs and billions in export revenue depend.
“The Government must consider shutting down all CNG stations to forever put an end to this dreadful ordeal of supplying a product for which alternate fuel is already available”, he opined.
EFP president urged the Government to keep industrial units operational at all times, and instead perform immediate forensic auditing of all the IPPs and accelerate efforts toward creation of the first electricity market in Pakistan.
